Forget about the disappointment in yourself, time after time, when you just can’t seem to stick with the goals you’ve set. I know how hard it is to change as we mature (that’s a polite way of saying we’re getting older). I’m in my 60’s and have faced some devastating challenges. But I discovered the secret to not letting anything stop me from doing what I know is best for me, including setting and achieving my goals, no matter how big or small they may be.
I learned that I have to be in balance…my body, my mind, and my spirit (my soul, inner strength, my heart). ALL of me needs to come to the party or I’m not fully committed to making the change, or meeting the goal. And, it takes some time, and commitment, to get there and stay there day by day.
It sounds so simple, and in some respects it is. But saying to yourself, “oh okay, I get it, not so hard to do” and actually finding that balance, then living it every day, are two very different things, my friend.
We can be so quick to make a commitment for someone else, to do something for them, spend time with them, care for them, help them, etc.
But when it comes to us and what WE need, we think it’s selfish or self centered, so we shove that to the back burner for when we have time. And then what happens? Yah. Not much.
Say for example, you set a goal of regular exercise and fitness. Well, if my goal of a consistent fitness routine that includes aerobic and strength training is totally cool in my head and my heart, but if my body is worn out from lack of sleep, too much sugar, running around like a crazy person trying to please everyone in the family…the body just won’t be able to perform.
